<20 15x15 20x20, 13th edition - opening day
|
Valentina Diena is on show with four artworks: Flax, Prologue (15x15 cm), Flax, Verse (20x20 cm), Flax, Refrain (20x20 cm) and Flax, Epilogue (15x15 cm). The four works are part of a bigger series whose works are inspired by the renowned tales of Hans Christian Andersen; her meticulously crafted artworks transport viewers to a fairy-tale world, evoking nostalgia and wonder. In this case, the small series is inspired by "The Flax", an Andersen tale about the development of a flax flower that keeps changing in its form and means of use, creating an infinite loop where there's no beginning nor ending, only growth and metamorphosis.
Some of the artists, among which Valentina Diena, are present at the opening. The exhibition will be on view until August 01, 2026.

Roma Arte in Nuvola - Contemporary and Modern Art Fair
|
Since its debut in 2021, Roma Arte in Nuvola has established itself as the leading modern and contemporary art fair in the Italian capital — a meeting point for Italian and international galleries, collectors, curators, and art enthusiasts. Curated by Adriana Polveroni and directed by Alessandro Nicosia, the fair offers each year a rich and dynamic journey through diverse artistic languages and disciplines — from painting to sculpture, from installations to digital art — celebrating the variety and vitality of contemporary expression.
Roma Arte in Nuvola, with its high-quality and wide-ranging artistic proposal, is today an event capable of supporting the ‘artistic personality’ of the Capital, as well as that of Central and Southern Italy, amplifying its identity well beyond national borders.
Valentina Diena partecipates to this fifth edition of Roma Arte in Nuvola with her representative gallery, Punto Sull'Arte International Contemporary Art Gallery from Varese, Italy. Her artworks from the series Nosedive!, among which Nosedive! 02, Nosedive! 03, Nosedive! 04, Nosedive! 06, and other works such as Forelsket and Icons 10, are on show at Punto Sull'Arte, Level 0 - booth G30, together with other prestigious artists such as Roberto Bernardi, Jernej Forbici, Lene Kilde, Matteo Massagrande, Mauro Reggio and Valeria Vaccaro.

“The Pink & Powerful exhibition pays tribute to emblematic figures such as Hilma Af Klint, with her spiritualist abstractionism, and Kiki Smith, who explores the dialogue with nature. The enchanted atmospheres of Leonora Carrington and the visionary work of Katsushika Ōi accompany the pop edge of Pauline Boty and visual poetry…”

Punto sull’Arte gallery in Varese, Italy, presents a “pink” exhibition dedicated to the female world. This pink, far from clichés, is chosen as a symbol of joy, sisterhood, and resilience. In celebration of International Women’s Day, the inauguration takes place on March 8th, to honor the power and creativity of contemporary female artists in this Pink & Powerful exhibition, expressing a strong and nuanced femininity rooted in tradition. The exhibition will be visible until April 05, 2025.
|
|
The rooms of the gallery are set up with unpublished paintings and sculptures of thirteen female artists (Annalù, Valentina Ceci, Ilaria del Monte, Valentina Diena, Claudia Giraudo, Jill Höjeberg, Lene Kilde, Silvia Levenson, Lara Martinato, Sabrina Milazzo, Valeria Vaccaro, Marika Vicari and Alice Zanin), curated by the art curator Alessandra Redaelli and the gallerist Sofia Macchi. A “pink exhibition” to talk about women. A pink out of clichés but chosen as a symbol of happiness, sisterhood, unity and feminine resilience. That’s how Punto Sull’Arte Gallery celebrates the Women’s Day with the will to highlight, through Alessandra Redaelli’s curatorship, how female artists today can mouthpiece for a feminine delicate yet relentless, woven of all the female artists great tradition.

Among the artists, Valentina Diena presents La Vie en Rose. Overtourism. There’s much to read behind the pencil strokes - given with the precision of a scalpel - of Valentina Diena. Her work makes you want to reach out and touch to understand if what we are watching is really bidimensional. She chooses iconic subjects (often quoting fashion and art) so that we can read another story underneath. Such as the Eiffel Tower that she is bringing at the exhibition. The souvenir becomes a symbol of the overtourism that is condemning the big capital cities to a slow consumption and pushes us to think about the risk of how the habit of the gaze can trivialize symbolic monuments. Even though the color pink - La vie en rose, the title of the work, is a Chinese boxes of references itself - somehow redeems it through the joy and the optimism.

““The VAF-Stiftung Prize stands out among many respectable ones for the research and love it reserves for young artists. And it is a projection of Volker W. Feierabend's sensibility, taste and instinct, which is confirmed in retrospect by the critics' choices which accompany his passion for the art of the Italian 20th century and for the artists of the latest generations on whom the judgement has not yet been established. Feierabend owes a great deal to the MART, which welcomed his collection and gave it order and organisation; and the Mart in Rovereto owes a great deal to Feierabend and can be said to have become the home for his paintings, which are then ours. The fact that, after Kiel, the Award organisation has asked the Mart as the venue is for me the confirm of a relationship that is now historic and a source of pride for the commitment that the selection of the competitors and the choice of the Prize-winners entail, in the surprise of recognising up to now unknown personalities. It is with this spirit and with this confident expectation that I shared the Founder's desire to welcome the award in the museum ehibition halls inhabited and enlivened by the fundamental works of so many twentieth-century masters belonging to the VAF Foundation, so that, before being part of it, the new works of young artists might live and share the same spaces.””

The Mart Museum hosts the tenth edition of the VAF Prize, established by the German foundation of the same name to support young Italian art. While the Prize enables the Foundation to expand its holdings with purchases of recognised quality, it also promotes innovative positions in contemporary art and presents them to the public in Italy and Germany. In fact, the project first stopped at the Stadtgalerie in Kiel, Germany, from 15 June to 1 September 2024 and now at the Mart from 28 September 2024 to 9 February 2025.
|
 |
The Prize was established in 2003 with the aim of promoting the artistic and creative potential of artists under 40. Over the years, the organisation of the competition has boasted numerous collaborations with important national and German exhibition venues, such as the Mart, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rovereto, the Museo della Permanente in Milan, the MACRO Testaccio in Rome, the Museo civico di Palazzo della Penna in Perugia, the Institut Mathildenhöhe in Darmstadt, the Künstlerhaus in Graz and the Stadtgalerie in Kiel. The pre-selection of artists, carried out for the first time on the digital platform of the Foundation's website, resulted in the evaluation of more than a hundred applications. Following careful examination of the various artistic positions, the Scientific Committee of the VAF Foundation chose the names of the 13 finalists for the exhibition: Adriano Annino, Antonio Barbieri, Chiara Calore, Valentina Diena, Roberto Fanari, Debora Garritani, Teresa Giannico, Jacopo Ginanneschi, Monica Mazzone, Alessandro Nanni, Davide Quartucci, Michele Tajariol, Beatrice Taponecco. |
From September 28, 2024 to February 09, 2025 the artworks of Valentina Diena will be exhibited, on the occasion of the second stage of the prestigious X VAF Foundation Award, in the prestigious rooms of the MART Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Trento and Rovereto. After the award, the VAF Foundation purchased three of Diena's artworks. Farewell, Nosedive! and Chasing Venus will therefore be part of the prestigious VAF Foundation Private collection. Read more:

Punto Sull'Arte contemporary art gallery reopens the exhibition season with a powerful trio show. Three artists, three different ways of ironizing and sometimes denouncing the superficiality of our way of life, often focused only on appearance and self-satisfaction. Their works go beyond the canons of hyperrealism, perfectly capturing everyday life with common objects and depicting famous Superheroes transformed into ordinary people dealing with everyday life.
|
The artists presented are Roberto Bernardi, a world-renowned artist that exhibits his exceptional works at the Sweet Icons three-person show, and alongside Valentina Diena and Claudio Filippini that showcase their refined works with a strong conceptual charge and exceptional technical execution. The opening reception of Sweet Icons is held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 11am to 1pm at the main Gallery in Viale Sant'Antonio 59/61 in Varese (Casbeno). |
Roberto Bernardi relies on the magnificence of color to demonstrate how appearance is essential in the modern world, a world where we are surrounded by false, polished, and perfect beauty. The exhibition features oil paintings and sculptures depicting candy jars, lollipops, gum, and the iconic "Oreo" cookies. The artist's intention is to provoke, to stimulate reflection on how something that appears so perfect on the surface may hide a shadow, a hidden soul. Claudio Filippini, a painter from Brescia, is an important witness and descendant of the Italian figurative research. On the occasion of Sweet Icons Filippini has created a series of large canvases in which the famous DC superhero Batman is confronted with the everyday aspects of existence. The artist performs a sympathetically irreverent act towards those who always take themselves too seriously, demonstrating that superheroes are much more human than we think. |
Valentina Diena, artist on the rise born in 1996, based her series “Icons” presented at Punto Sull'Arte on the concept of the hidden and the see-through. That’s because in the drawings exhibited in Sweet Icons, and yes they’re really colored pencils drawings, Diena doesn’t explicit the subject in all its features, but she hides it under layers of tape with the “fragile” word, only enhancing its silhouette. The artworks are a clear reference to the great artists of the 21st century, from Jeff Koons to Maurizio Cattelan, and are entirely created with colored pencils, a tool that Diena has loved since her youth. Her work is almost a spiritual exercise, a sort of self-control of the mind, which must adapt to the slow rhythm of pastel drawing. The excellent technique and strong conceptual charge of her works have earned her a place among the candidates for the X VAF Foundation Award, and currently some of her paintings are exhibited at the Stadtgalerie in Kiel (DE). Following the German stage, the artworks will return to Italy to be presented at the prestigious MART Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Trento and Rovereto on the occasion of the award ceremony. Valentina Diena, the suspension of time. An artistic research originating from the childhood drawings improving on the subject representation accuracy. Valentina Diena was born in Milan in 1996 and through this interview we are getting to know better the developments of her artistic research.
How did you get to these results? “What fascinated me first and foremost about the colored pencils drawing on paper is its presence in our collective memory: all of us started, somewhere in our childhood, grabbing some colored pencils and tracing marks on a paper. I think a part of me still holds those child needs: drawing has always been a fundamental communication tool to me, not replaceable with verbal language, especially in relation to the observation and elaboration of what surrounds me”.

“The considerations I make in front of these young artists are such as to establish a natural tradition of which Italy is the heart, because Italian art is the center of the world both compared to French, Spanish and American art. And for this it’s interesting to reveal the research of Valentina Diena, who since can’t avoid the confrontation with Pop Art, like all the Italian artists that suddenly seem overwhelmed by this popular art which is consumerist but also a denunciation of capitalism, finds her original path. Valentina Diena suggests a bond with Pop art through drawing, a drawn Pop Art. It is surely another path that bonds past with present: in the Italian tradition drawing is the key through which the world is understood, through the reason and thought. Drawing, in Tuscan culture, from Giotto to Botticelli, is measure and order. Reducing Pop art to reason is surely the intuition of Valentina Diena.”

On June 14, 2024, the exhibition for the 10th edition of the prestigious VAF Stiftung Foundation Award is opened.
The award, set up in 2003 in order to promote the young Italian artists, is presented every year by the VAF Foundation to “promoting innovative positions in Italian contemporary art and communicating them in Germany by awarding a prize and through exhibitions and publications”. The exceptional technical skills of Valentina Diena with colored pencils earned her a selection among the 13 finalists of this prestigious award.

After celebrating its tenth anniversary with great success last year, the "20 15×15/20×20" | 2024 edition confirms itself as a highly anticipated appointment for collectors and art lovers. The opening of the exhibition is held on Thursday, June 6, at Punto Sull'Arte Contemporary Art Gallery.

The creator of this renowned artistic review, the gallerist Sofia Macchi, didn’t set boundaries to the creativity of the 18 participant artists, leaving full freedom on topics and techniques and giving the only constraint of the artworks size: 15x15 cm and 20x20 cm. The artists took up the challenge of facing the unconventional size, which allows to create small masterpieces at the same time, not only pictorial but also sculptural. Among the painters stand out indeed some internationally known sculptors, such as Simone Benedetto, Kyoji Nagatani, Lorenzo and Simona Perrone, Valeria Vaccaro and Matthias Verginer. Among the painters, in addition to the already known artists from the gallery such as Roberto Bernardi, Valentina Diena, Claudia Giraudo and many others, new names appear such as Daniela Gullotta and Massimo Villa.

<20 15x15 20x20, 11th edition - opening day
|
Valentina Diena is on show together with other 17 artists, with four artworks: Icons 05 (20x20 cm), Icons 06 (20x20 cm), Icons 07 (15x15 cm) and Icons 08 (15x15 cm). All the artworks are part of a bigger series, Icons, where the subjects of the hyperrealistic drawings colored pencils on paper are mostly iconic images from the contemporary pop art world, always wrapped in the white and red “fragile” tape.
The topics addressed range from the philosophical life views, such as the self-discovery and culture as the carrier of existence, to the battle to protect the environment, the hyperrealism and the landscape. The set-up of the artworks is studied in great detail and consists of a continuous line that travels the big rooms of the ground floor of the gallery. A minimal exhibition but full of visual impact, which shows the unexpected but tasteful matchings. The whole exhibition is a homage to the limitless creativity, an occasion to admire the artworks of well-known artists and discover other surprising creative universes. Read more:

An empty bottle of precious “Armand De Brignac” champagne can become a symbol of revolt, turning into a molotov cocktail ready to be lit, at least in the pictorial intentions of Valentina Diena, whom the French “brut” costing 300 euros has masterfully reproduced on paper in a 76×112 cm work entitled “Feeling good.”
It is one of the latest works by the Milanese illustrator born in 1996 and graduated in painting at Brera Academy in 2022, who has always been linked to hyperrealism and the use of colored pencils, with which she reproduces objects of everyday use such as shoes, plastic toy soldiers, chess, electronic cigarettes, cables or wall phones.
Mario Chiodetti, journalist at Varesenoi press, met her at the main venue of Punto Sull'Arte Gallery, at 59/61 Viale Sant’Antonio in Varese, where she has brought Icons, her latest recently finished work, a “balloon dog” perfectly packaged with a scotch tape with the word “fragile” written on it, measuring 45x45 cm. The Milanese artist is also exhibiting some of her works in the gallery’s current show, titled <20 15×15/20×20, and has several drawings on permanent display at Punto Pop of Punto Sull'Arte, San Martino della Battaglia Street in Varese.
Elegant in black and white, many piercings and tattoos, a pendant recalling her love of cats, Valentina talks about her passion for drawing, born, one might say, with her. Read more:

“It is an uninterrupted line of ideas, colours and moods that crosses the rooms at Punto Sull'Arte Gallery, a powerful and pointed gesture that allows the viewer to discover seventeen different worlds, domes of dreams like profound reflections on today, utopias and excavations into the most hidden self.”

The exhibition <20 15x15/20×20 has been running for ten years now at Punto Sull’Arte gallery, confirming itself as one of the most awaited by the public and by fans of the small format, and since 2014 has seen the alternation of many artists of different nationalities, not at all afraid to try their hand at the small format, but rather proactive and curious about the result, an outcome of great quality and a strong expressive imprint. Sofia Macchi and her staff never set limits on creativity: no constraints on subject or even on technique, maximum freedom, the involved painters and sculptors probably the first to be surprised by these works that, even in a few centimetres, manage to make us think and create ideas for a debate on art that always seeks new paths and highlights the lights and shadows of modernity.

Artwork Gallery - Issue 3, Valentina Diena
|
On February 2023 Valentina Diena starts a new collaboration with Punto Sull'Arte International Contemporary Art Gallery, located in Varese, Italy, which is currently the artist's representative gallery.
Punto Sull'Arte art gallery is a benchmark for Italian and international Contemporary Art. With three galleries both in Varese, it is located in a strategic position, few kilometres from Milan, the Swiss border and Lake Maggiore. Every year the gallery presents, in his exhibition venues, at least seven shows and, since 2012, it has regularly taken part in some of the most important Modern and Contemporary Art Fairs. Always committed to the promotion of contemporary painters and sculptors, Punto Sull'Arte has a dual soul: on the one hand, it has always tent to the international art market. Curiosity and sensitivity towards what is moving around the art scene has been, and still is, one of the keys to the success of the Gallery, able to boast an important portfolio of artists from all over the world. On the other hand, it is, however, strongly based on the discovery and promotion of Italian artists with contemporary sensibility and mastery.
Punto Sull'Arte is now representing, among other several italian and foreigner artists, also Valentina Diena, whose works are now permanently exhibited at Punto Pop, the third gallery space opened on May 2023.

"Petrol cans signed Vuitton, colorful balloons with Chanel logo, king size Doctor Martens leather boots that seem to come out of the painting, elegant giant lipsticks, an ostrich that imperturbably crosses colorful urban landscapes and the iconic “Balloon Dog”. Here is Pop, popular art which is directly connected with our daily obsessions, brands as symbols of modernity, consumption that tries to mediate with the imagination of those who create, the fetish object that becomes enormous. Neo Pop breaks through every social barrier, mixing high and low culture, entering homes with works of almost obsessive evidence, which make us remember how our life is continuously bombarded by cult objects, almost always superfluous and perhaps expensive, but indispensable to our eyes. It is a relentless struggle that the artists, with their hypersensitivity to the new and to changing fashions, try to win, manifesting in the works a sort of love-hate towards the consumer society, and witnessing the profound signs of globalization and the paradoxical isolation of the individual, who has himself become an object of consumption.ve evidence, which make us remember how our life is continuously bombarded by cult objects, almost always superfluous and perhaps expensive, but indispensable to our eyes. Punto Pop is the third gallery of Punto Sull'Arte, which celebrated its opening on May 20, 2023.
On display there is, alongside already international well-known artists, such as Jeff Koons, Angelo Accardi and Giuseppe Veneziano, a selection of young talented emerging ones.

This is the case of Valentina Diena, who carries out an almost police investigation around the objects we are used to seeing in our daily lives, without worrying about observing them closely and giving them the right weight in our lives. The artist, on the contrary, takes their fetishism to extremes, making them almost grotesque, but of an extraordinary formal perfection, thanks to the incredible pictorial technique evident in the use of colored pencils. On show, Farewell, depicting a pair of boots Dr Martens, Eat or Beaten, the chess queen and king diptych, Nosedive!, the candy dispenser. Read more:

Lo Spazio Bianco art gallery, together with the art curator Sarah Campisi, launch an open call entitled Fantasie Radicali inviting visual artists to present one or more artworks using a medium between painting, sculpture, installation or performance. Is the relationship between people and the city partially influenced by the suburbs’ neglect? The submitted call asks this question to few artists living the historic glossy downtown and the experience of a lit shop window as opposed to the decadence of the real, the neglect and the crisis of care. Creativity is therefore a powerful tool to contrast the neglect.

From this “brief” consideration is born the idea of proposing to Nolo district, where the gallery is born, between via Padova and viale Monza, a group exhibition that can trigger some consideration about the topic of outskirts (but not only) and degraded and forsaken places. Seven international artists have been selected for the exhibition which will be inaugurated in the spaces of the gallery in Via Privata Tommaso Marinetti 2, on September 6 at 6pm and will be open until September 16, 2022.
Valentina Diena (Milan), Paola Zeppi (Fossombrone), Alicia Iglesias (Madrid), Manuel De Marco (Udine), Paki Paola Bernardi (Turin), Sergey Dobrynov (Lugansk) and Francesco Colzani (Lecco) arę deeply different from each other in their intent, matter, expressive form and composition, but united by a single creative engine: trying to translate in artistic language the violent conflicts of contemporary society that wants us dynamic performing on the one hand, and passive and receptor of ourselves on the other hand.

"The path starts with the action of Valentina Diena, who in May 2022 placed a white dummy and a black marker in front of the gallery, inviting the passers-by to express any thought on a defenseless, lifeless body. The hyperrealism artist realized then a perfect copy o paper, somehow recalling Kosuth’s conceptualization and adding the uncontrolled public action to the consideration about reality and representation. An action which talks about anger, outburst, female condition as a straight consequence of the universal existential angst and its spectuacularization through the media."

“Lo Spazio Bianco art gallery presents an extreme duo exhibition entitled Veleni Sospesi. Art compares to the harshness of expression and obsession for the detail. Valentina Diena’s pieces open to the absolute detail to flow into conceptual, while the reproductions of Mauro Bergamaschi recreate a real and imaginary world through a modeled version of creativity. Art goes against the formal code and doesn’t lay down on a preset path, but rather penetrates the awareness of the city through the values of a body that is now inhuman, the ‘electronic cigarette’ and the fetishism of the released model. The vision applies in clear and structural shapes. The artists’ mind is secondary to the strength of the hand that carves the language without boundaries.”

Veleni Sospesi duo exhibition - Valentina Diena, "Farewell"
|
Veleni Sospesi is a duo art exhibition curated by Vittorio Raschetti. The exhibition opens the 27th of June, 2022, at Lo Spazio Bianco contemporary art gallery in Milan, Italy, and will be accessible until the 19th of July.
The two artists on show are Mauro Bergamaschi and Valentina Diena, both from Milan. Their extremely different approach to artistic expression and use of media lead to two artistic productions that may seem opposite and differing: while Valentina Diena works with hyperrealism colored pencils on paper, portraying consumer goods through an extremely detailed and accurate manual techique, Mauro Bergamaschi recreates true scenes through model building that seem coming from real life and a dreamlike dimension at the same time. But the same obsession for the slightest detail, the bond with contemporary subjects and matters, and also a subtle critical eye over contemporary era together generate a common thread that connects the artists' practices and gives life to a single balanced and meaningful exhibition Read more:

2019 and 2020 have been the hundredth anniversaries of the death of two great artists, Leonardo da Vinci and Raffaello Sanzio. The iconic images of both are their self-portraits (Leonardo’s one is stored in the Biblioteca Reale in Turin, while Raffaello’s in the Galleria degli Uffizi, Florence). A group of worthy young artists started a study from these historical models to contemporary era, and gave life to original artworks with a remarkable attention to drawing and engraving.
Eventually, the recent experience with pandemic SARS-CoV-2 and the resulting lockdowns led to times of self-analysis, giving new elements and food for thought on the artistic self.
The location, San Pietro all’Orto in Massa Marittima, is a museum of regional relevance, keeping masterpieces of thirteenth and fourteenth century art, among which the Maestà of Ambrogio Lorenzetti and the sculptures of Giovanni Pisano from the facade of the San Cerbone Cathedral. Read more:
